HP ProLiant G7 Servers

HP Announces the New ProLiant G7 Servers

The three first versions that have been released are the HP ProLiant DL165 G7 and HP ProLiant DL385 G7rack-optimised servers, and the HP ProLiant SL165z G7.

All will sport AMD's OpteronTM 6100 Series processors. HP believes the operational efficiencies in the servers mean they will pay for themselves in as little as two months.

These results are based on HP's internal benching on a ProLiant DL380 G4 to DL385 G7 with an AMD OpteronTM 6100 Series processor.

HP's Sea of Sensor technology auto tracks thermal activity through 32 sensors that auto adjust components to reduce energy usage, the firm said.

HP Dynamic Power Capping technology improves data centre utilisation and HP Power Advisor configures systems based on real-time power guidance for specific workloads.

All three of HP's ProLiant G7s will get a worldwide launch in April with the minimum configurations selling for $1,449 (£960) in the US. HP has not set a UK price yet.

  • RAM limit has increased from 128GB to 256GB
  • RAM performance has increased from DDR-2 to DDR-3
  • New feature - Integrated SD Card Reader
  • New feature – dual-port 10GbE riser card
  • PCIe replaced with PCIeV2.0
  • iLO-2 replaced with iLO-3

The New HP ProLiant G7 - built for virtualisation

This is a server designed from the ground up for server virtualisation. Yes, it's very powerful and it would be great for multithreaded applications but, blatantly this server has been built for virtualisation. A huge CPU core count, 0.25TB RAM and an integrated SD card reader for integrated hypervisor in 2U with a complete power and cooling monitoring suite.

HP ProLiant G7 Server Benefits

High Performance:

The HP ProLiant DL385 G7 server has 2 x 12-cores of processing power, the largest number of cores in any x86 processor, balanced with 12MB of cache and 4 channels of memory = High Capacity & Bandwidth – which is ideal for applications such as virtualisation that requires a lot of memory throughput.

Double the maximum memory capacity. Up to 66% faster memory performance.

Flexibility:

There is flexibility within the server to enable different PCI configurations, common slot redundant power supplies, common cache upgrades for the integrated Smart Array controller, optical drives, and up to 16 SFF or 6 LFF hard drives.

Control and Management:

The ProLiant G7 servers have the third generation of integrated lights out management system; with an increased performance making remote control faster and simpler.

There are thermal sensors that allow greater monitoring of the thermal characteristics of the server and power supply and optimise power usage while staying within the 90% + efficiency range of power supply.

Surpass performance and cost expectations
